COLA GABLES – Bygone
We are the sum of everything we experience in life. Whether they are positive or negative. Writer Besel van der Kolk has written a book on this topic, The Body Keeps the Score, and Cuban-American singer-songwriter Erik Beruvides has decided to turn the theme into music.
‘Bygone’ is one of the singles from Erik‘s project entitled Coral Gables. On this indie rock track, he sings about a lost friendship and how the body stores trauma.
“Music is an understanding that the present is always influenced by the past, but we still need to move on.” Declared the artist. In contrast, ‘Bygone’‘s music is light and fluent, influenced by acoustic pop, ambient and American music.
DREAM EYES – Heaven
Collins is the voice behind Dream Eyes. In 2019, he suffered a motorcycle accident and one of the consequences was that his arm was paralyzed for a long time. He already played guitar and needed to readjust to continue making music. That’s how he started using the synthesizers that are part of the composition of ‘Heaven’, his fourth single in less than a year.
‘Heaven’ carries sweetness in its instrumental, while the voice of Collins does the counterpoint bringing the frustration of living in the midst of a daydream. “I want to get away from this dream place,” he says.
LONGLIGHT – Alara
Longlight is the union of 2 peculiar musicians. William‘s voice is so expressive and intense, it’s impossible not to feel all the emotion he conveys in every sung note. The arrangements made by Lucas Pollo masterfully accompany this talent. The result of this is in the hands of the music producer Danny Allin, responsible for guiding the band along unusual paths.
The single was created romantically, under the light of the studio’s lanterns in London. “‘ALARA’ has become a symbol for the relationships that nurture the human experience and a promise to be there for people, no matter what.” – declared the pair.
Come fall in love with Longlight‘s romantic pop track:
KID APOLLO – Wrong Foot Forward
The first few minutes of ‘Wrong Foot Forward’ are extremely melodic and dramatic. Then, that more lively indie vibe starts to emerge increasingly.
The story told by Kid Apollo is about the frustration and reluctant acceptance of not being where you want to be in life. Who has never felt this way, be the one who cast the first stone! Even more after this hiatus in life that we suffered because of the pandemic. Some people needed to take a break while others actually got back home in the game of life.
The track features the DNA of late ’90s indie bands like Arctic Monkeys and Vampire Weekend, while blending tones from more modern contemporaries like Dayglow or Kynsy. This mixture is capable of making us feel less worse in the face of unfulfilled goals in life. Like a meeting at the bar with friends for us to laugh at the disgrace, you know? Hahah.
“It’s melodic and addictive, but also sincere and honest.” – Kid Apollo.
CRITIKILCONDITION – LeadtheWay
“LeadtheWay came at a time in my life when I needed guidance in more than one aspect and wanted my return to music to be meaningful and powerful. This song has a lot of influences from 90’s rock and I feel it captures the essence of that era with screaming and direct lyrics. The purpose of this new sound that I feel my band and I are exploring serves as a modern twist on an iconic sound.” – Rylan declared.
Critikilcondition‘s single talks about love relationships and demonstrates in its melody, the dense thought that hovered over his head. The strong bass and grunge elements leave a feeling of concern or, above all, a strong reflection on what love is.
Rylan says he composed ‘LeadtheWay’ while he was in a serious relationship and it took him 2 years to finally record. “This song is vital for people in the same situation I was in when I wrote it, so they understand that true love doesn’t run away from you, doesn’t make you question what you deserve or take what you can get. This song is a comfort amidst the discomfort.”
AURA DAVIS – What You Love?
If a woman was never called crazy by the guy she was seeing, she didn’t mess enough with his heart and head. That’s why after hearing this kind of rumor about herself, Aura Davis vented viscerally in just 20 minutes of her recent single ‘What You Love?’.
She is heavily influenced by progressive rock and melancholy. In this single, the singer seduces the listener with her beautiful timbre accompanied by some elements of indie rock. But at the same time, you can feel the contempt in her rhymes. Several times, Aura sings from the bottom of her soul “I’m a crazy woman, but that’s what you love about me”, in a provocative way, giving voice to many women who have also experienced this story.
ABI MUIR – Still The Same
Abi Muir is a young singer who has been gaining much praise from renowned professionals in the Australian music scene, and many artists decided to join the singer on a voluntary basis in order to help boost her career. Many who hear Abi Muir sing say she is a cross between Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish. Will you say the same?
The single ‘Still The Same’ precedes the singer’s first album, set to be released in early 2022. The track with an indie-pop vibe tells the story of a person who rediscovers an old love, making use of dramatic strings with a powerful punch. drum and piano line that support emotional vocals, communicating the feeling you get when you sense the passage of time and the effects of change.
Abi Muir describes the inspiration for the single as, “It was inspired by a book I read where the character became immortal and lived many different lives, but it was still the change as you, as an observer, feel the same, standing still in time. “
DELTA – Hey You
Delta is an artist born and raised in Greece. His first instrument was a piano and as a teenager, he fell in love with the guitar. And so it was that during college in London, he experienced the underground English rock scene. Today, he gathered all this baggage and started his solo career, demonstrating to the public all his metamorphosis so far and without clinging to labels and genres. Delta exhibits his authentic self in his new single.
“Hey You is about believing that the person you looked up to is still there, deep down, but you need to find a way to reach out and reconnect with the person you used to know.” – declared the singer who abuses his vocal power together with the maximum brightness of his piano to thrill the listener.
CLOUD CARAVAN – Separation
The concept that relationship is a challenge is unanimous and this turned out to be even more difficult during the pandemic. While many couples and families could no longer stand being cooped up during the lockdown, there were those who suffered from trying to keep the flame burning despite the physical distance. And faced with this dilemma, the band Cloud Caravan composed their second single, ‘Separation’.
The track has an instrumental intro with a notable bass and raucous electronic elements that takes us back to the 70s. So, Harry’s voice brings that comfortable feel of indie music. And so, ‘Separation’ swings between electronic and indie pop, making clear its influences from bands like The 1975, REM and Joy Division.
“I am very grateful to Letícia for offering to cover our music in Diário de Shows, and I really hope that listeners in Brazil like a track that is in our hearts! We value a lot those who dare to know our music, even more when they are so far away from us :)) Thank you very much and enjoy! Cloud Caravan “
GLI INCUBI DI FREUD – Migliore Attore Non Protagonista
For those who like alternative rock with a more punk feel, I’ll introduce the Italian band Gli Incubi di Freud that emerged during the pandemic, when Joshua finally decided to share his talent with the world. Those were years of shelved compositions that now surface to the general joy of rockers.
And the band already warns that the use of psychotherapeutic terms is not accidental: the group’s concept and themes arise from the singer’s first-person experience, accompanying the studio sessions through the music.
Despite the fast-paced riffs, the lyrics of ‘Migliore Attore Non Protagonista’ are somber and convey all the feelings of disillusionment the vocalist was facing in his life. But during the development of the single, there is a clear shift in tone, pace and perspective, to symbolize a long-awaited and longed-for rebirth.
“Life can be very difficult, but persisting in the search for good interpretations for your own fulfillment is always the best thing to do and want.” – declared the vocalist.
IRYS – Ride or Die
IRYS singer’s newest release titled ‘Ride or Die’ is about a toxic relationship. The self-report is a relief but also has a much greater objective, to help other women who have also gone through this situation not to feel intimidated.
“In writing about this, I try to process my experience and can also show other people who have had a similar experience that they are not alone.” – declared the singer and stated with total conviction “I don’t want to be silent”.
Despite the dense theme, the electronic track is extremely immersive. ‘Ride or Die’ is a mix of pop and goth where Irys manages to translate through the synthesizers, as the other seduces you and even makes you confused by the situation. The urge to run away is distressing, but at the same time, you want to enjoy that moment a little longer.
BRICK BLAIR – On The Zooms
Before paying attention to the lyrics of ‘On The Zooms’, I confess that I wanted to know a little better who Brick Blair was and what his new single was about because of his sensitive instrumental and his sincere voice. When I contacted Brick, he told me something surprising. The song was made for his BRAZILIAN ex-girlfriend. I didn’t expect this, I replied in surprise to him hahah.
The American singer had started a relationship with a girl from Porto Alegre who was living in the United States at the beginning of the pandemic, and as many things did not last in this period, their story also ended.
The novel is narrated in folk pop style, and if you close your eyes while listening, you can watch all the scenes narrated as if it were a romantic movie with no happy ending. A 500 Days Of Summer vibe, you know?
“I did a show at an off-Broadway theater. I invited my friends and family. I invited her. I told her I was sorry I couldn’t give her what she needed in the life or death of our relationship. I said I valued her and the time we spent together and that I wanted her to be present in my life. I asked her if she thought this was possible. Her response was not amorphous or elliptical: “No thanks.”
HANNA GRACE – Foxgloves
Hanna Grace brings in her new single ‘Foxgloves’ the concept of dark together with electronics, with the intention that her listeners feel like dancing even in front of heavy themes of life. To illustrate this duality, she represents in the video an alternative young woman and a witch. “I wanted to write a song about when you’re expected to smile even when things aren’t right.” – declared the singer.
Influenced by bands like The Beatles, Coldplay, Fiona Apple and Feeder, she says she dreams of making her fans shiver when they hear her music, just as she does when she plays her favorite artists.
From the beginning of ‘Foxgloves’ the beat is intense and striking, contrasting with Hanna’s dark voice. I guarantee you the chorus will stick in your head like a loop.
ROFI JAMES – Berlin Wall
Rofi James releases another single and now sings about the desire to escape the monotonous routine and daily problems of life during a pandemic. In the band’s own words, “Berlin Wall means getting away from it all, yearning for a break from the daily grind we live in when we’re locked in, the familiar environment and the daily grind of living in a pandemic to escape the hope of another glimmer of normalcy”.
The fast pace makes the listener feel a sense of freedom, while the chorus is perfect for that moment in the show when the whole audience comes off the floor, jumping wildly, you know?
‘Berlin Wall’ is one of the promotion singles from Rofi James‘ debut album, slated for 2022!
JAKE BRACEY & THE MOUNTAIN LAURELS – Drag
Do you know when we go to a pub and the soundtrack makes the night magical? Or do you think “wow, what a voice!”? That’s the feeling I got when I first met Jake Bracey & The Mountain Laurels‘ new single “Drag”.
No wonder, after all, he performed for 10 years in these bars and in 2019 released his first EP, “Asleep on a Highway”. During the pandemic, Jake worked hard with his colleagues to release the new LP compilation, in which ‘Drag’ is the second release single.
“The snippet of each song on the record is a series of instant memories that I (Jake) clung to and that took me to my place in life. Ups and downs like everyone else. But this is my honest attempt to tell the stories of the moments that made me who I am now.” – declared the singer.
